A new term brings a welcome return to the classroom for James Foster, who is thrilled to be back teaching at the University of Chinese Academy of Sciences (UCAS). With term beginning in the week of 7 September, James is looking forward to working with students at the Zhongguancun and Huairou campuses once again.
This term, postgraduate students will study Effective Presentations (EP) and Academic Writing (AW) as part of English Speaking B, while undergraduates will explore their ideas and imagination through Creative Writing (CW). Updated EduZMS online courses will support their work in class and between lessons.

Effective Presentations: ideas worth sharing
EP helps students turn their knowledge into clear, engaging presentations. From planning a strong opening and guiding an audience through an argument to choosing useful visuals and handling questions, the course builds practical skills for speaking with confidence.
Academic Writing: making a clear case
AW focuses on expressing complex ideas in well-organised academic English. Students work on structure, arguments and evidence, then develop their writing through drafting, peer review and revision—learning to make their message clearer at each stage.
Creative Writing: finding a voice
For undergraduates, CW offers space to experiment with English through fiction, screenwriting, podcasts and poetry. Creating convincing characters, shaping scenes and revising early drafts encourages students to explore language and develop a voice of their own.
Across all three courses, the aim is to connect purposeful classroom learning with regular online practice. James looks forward to a term of fresh ideas, lively discussion and steady progress—and wishes every student a successful and enjoyable start.
